Women in Sustainable Architecture: Lynne Sullivan

  • Comment

Founding partner of SustainableBYdesign

Founder of SustainableBYdesign, Lynne Sullivan was awarded an OBE back in 2011 for her contribution to the built environment.

As a member of the Government’s Building Regulations Advisory Committee since 2002, Sullivan has been instrumental in shaping policy; in particular the 2010 revisions to Part L.

She said: ‘My approach is founded on the belief that good design comes from the synthesis of traditional architectural skills with the technical intuition derived from environmental studies and a track record of delivering low-energy, sustainable development projects.

‘For me, implicit in the architect’s role is synthesising social, economic and environmental requirements in design and delivery. The key is to understand and shape the way all “agendas” can be realised, and deliver uplifting outcomes for building users  – the environmental element has spawned exciting simulation tools.’
