Founding partner at Ash Sakula
Cany Ash is a founding partner of architecture practice, Ash Sakula. Her work involves looking at sustainability not just through a materials or a bolt-on approach, but through designing buildings which have a sense of place, a relationship to context and are flexible.
Ash is currently working on research into housing procurement through self-build with the University of Sheffield. The project is looking at the building of an eco-terrace which will test ways to cut energy in use.
‘We would like to stretch the life expectancy of buildings and move thinking away from the consumerist comfort zone where architecture is described as an oversized product,’ Ash said. ‘Tricky as it is being an architect in a recession, we need to think about adaptability and future scenarios politically and collectively. We see the end-users as proper custodians of sustainability.’
