Churchill Gardens people can jog run or cycle to Battersea Park? What difference is there from running, jogging along Nine Elms, and then into the Park, as against jogging along Grosvenor Embankment, quick hop over Chelsea Bridge and into park? That footbridge really isn't needed.
Unfortunately, the architect's comments do not stand up. It is not a question of disturbing people's thoughts whilst they are in a green space , as this particular memorial could well prevent access to tat space by requiring tight security, possibly security fencing, traffic and queue controls, maybe extra policing, the removal of some of the greenery, as well as shifting an anti-slavery memorial. A sledgehammer to crack a nut.
Mr. Murray, You are a disgrace. Like a spoiled child, you resort to foot stamping and insults. Take a look at that picture. Quite a few under 60s there, wouldn't you say? Or don't you bother to get your facts right.
This bridge is a vanity project, it is quite unnecessary, and as was raised at a public meeting last night on one of the Battersea Estates, that money would be better be spent on facilities for our young people. Rolling a few bikes and walkers off the Nine Elms Road will not alleviate the congestions caused by HGVs, lorries and rather large cars.
To be quite honest, do we need this bridge anyway? Many of us would prefer to money going to protect our green spaces, already at risk from creeping over-commercialisation. Battersea Park is one, with its 3-4 weeks disruption and full and partial closure of construction work for the FE races. Should add that it was Boris's idea, too.
