Walters & Cohen finishes Horniman pavilion

Joint AJ Woman of the Year prize winners Cindy Walters and Michál Cohen have completed this garden pavilion as part of the Horniman Museum’s £2.3 million revamp of its gardens

The timber-framed zinc-clad box, housing a multipurpose education space, links to a lower larch-clad block which includes kitchen, toilets and store room facilities.

The project, which was backed by the Lottery Fund (HLF) and Big Lottery Fund (BIG) through the Parks for People scheme, included the restoration of a 100-year-old Charles Harrison Townsend-designed bandstand.

Masterminded by landscape architects Land Use Consultants, the scheme ‘enabled the layout of the gardens to be viewed as a whole, revitalising much-loved aspects and strengthening the ties between the Museum’s collection and its surroundings’.
