Modular school for Burmese refugees

  • Comment

[Registration must be completed by 1 October] Charity Building Trust International has launched a single stage design competition looking for proposals to design and build a modular school for Burmese refugees, submission deadline has been moved back to the 22 October

Situated in Kwe Ka Bung, Thailand, near the Burmese border, proposals must have the ability to be deconstructed and rebuilt elsewhere, as Thai law allows refugees only to lease land. As the built project must respond to possible future relocations, modular proposals and similar techniques are required.

Each proposal should include a 25m2 reception, six 12m2 classrooms, a 40m2 canteen, 16m2 of facilities, a 12m2 administration area and a 10m2 plant room. The total area of the building is 175m2.

Open to students and architects, submissions are limited to a maximum of 4 A2 sheets, while entry fees are £25 (students) and £95 (architects) respectively, with fees contributing to the construction budget.
