And has Cllr Peck tendered her resignation in the expensive and sorry saga? Or does she, like so many involved in this murky project, have no dignity or respect for public office?
I, too, am a happy miserablist. Ding dong the bridge is dead!
It wasn’t just the incredibly short-sighted, ugly and ill-conceived design, it was the fact that those involved with all aspects of this 2nd rate bridge thought they were better - or grander - than the likes of, say, Wordsworth and felt they were at liberty to steam roller his “View From Westminster Bridge”.
That this bridge ever received consideration says very little for the aesthetic views of those involved - it says even less for the then-Mayors design ideas. A case of the Emperor’s New Clothes?
Well said Robert Wakenan. This whole sorry project was a completely corrupt idea from the start. It was also a very silly idea. At least Livingstone had the sense to throw out the idea when Ms Lumley presented the concept to him. Now it all just smacks of nepotism, back-scratching and now misleading the public. And don’t forget the ex-chancellor who also had a hand in this ghastly mess. I hope they will all be called to account at some point - and I hope they’re all looking over their shoulders too.
Hurrah, let’s hope he’s called to account so lessons can be learned and nothing like this ever happens again.
