Comment on: Is architecture really LGBT friendly?
I guess this a cue for the leaders of professional practices and construction firms to show real qualities of leadership (and too few are equipped to do that) and create and sustain decent places in which professionals and crafts people are able to work happily and at their best. Perhaps it should be a breach of a professional and trade code to exhibit intolerance or insulting behaviour in the workplace? It most probably is.
Well done those appointees. My congratulations. The iconic photo of Brunel, wearing his top hat and surrounded by chains should be handed to all new members of the panel. By the way, did HS2 talk to Design Council/Cabe about appointments? Where's the joined up thinking there?
Interestingly the speed of HS2 will be 250 mph. which is rather low considering the French ran a TGV at 320 mph in 2007. The current operational speed of a TGV 2N2 is 200 mph carrying its capacity of 509 passengers, so our engineering ambitions are not very high. Because we are a nation of Luddites, where modernity and progress are enemies of the masses, the new panel and the HS2 company will have to work hard to push all this forward. We needed HS2, 3 and 4 years ago, so please, new panel, move fast now and push the boundaries of engineering and appearance to make up for lost time.
What a snip. The price would hardly buy a small neo-Georgian town house in a dense development only a few miles north of Haslemere. Maybe the RIBA will buy it to act as a centre for the promotion of architecture in an area that certainly needs architecture!
Let's not forget the cadre of RIBA Accredited Client Advisors which are the best kept secret in Portland Place. The proportion of buildings designed by architects is desperately low (under 10% being generally stated) and the lamentable quality of our built environment tends to reinforce this figure. We seem to have zero influence among parliamentarians so perhaps Mr Derbyshire's manifesto can help to move us into the sunlight of recognition and even compulsion to use us by clients. Let's focus on clients please.
Comment on: Architects welcome Corbyn victory
I thought journalists were supposed to be unbiased and had to report both sides of a story like this? Clearly not the case here. Silly me.
