Zaha ducks the glare of publicity

  • Comment

With all the attention focused on ‘that’ Zaha Hadid interview, news that her Aquatics Centre is facing a £1 million programme of remedial works somewhat slipped under the radar.

Last week it emerged that the London Legacy Development Corporation had begun the search for anti-glare blinds for the building’s western facade.

The news comes barely 18 months after the £269 million structure reopened following the removal of its temporary stands.

At the time, the curtain walling that replaced the stands was given a screen-printed ‘dot matrix’ pattern to reduce glare – clearly it didn’t do enough.
