Zaha Hadid Architects has drawn up plans for a new residential building beside Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro
The 41.5m-tall scheme, which faces south-east towards the beach, will be Hadid’s first building in Brazil.
Sitting inbetween two existing buildings, the 11-storey project must comply with strict planning guidelines which define its height and proximity towards its neighbours.
According to the practice the design ‘continues the liberating formal composition and spatial flow inherent within Brazil’s rich Modernist tradition and engages with the unique tempo and vitality of Copacabana’s urban beach culture, as well as the fluidity of its renowned Burle Marx promenade’.
The scheme is expected to start on site in March.
