Work has begun on O’Donnell + Tuomey’s scheme for the Central European University in Budapest
The 35,000m² project, which started on site in January, involves both renovation and new-build work at the university campus.
Alongside a new library spread over five floors, the project also includes an auditorium, public spaces, study spaces, teaching and learning facilities and a café.
The €34 million scheme spans six buildings in the in the historical area of Budapest city centre, and aims to ‘preserve the architectural character of the city block’.
The first phase of the scheme is set to complete in 2016.
