Construction has begun on a huge business district in Chongqing masterplanned by RMJM-offshoot 10 Design
The practice, based in Hong Kong and with offices in Edinburgh, drew up plans for the Danzishi Central Business District in the central Chinese city.
The 800,000m2 district is being created by a group of investors including NVC-Lighting; Chongqing Energy Investment Real Estate; the Sinosteel Investment Group; and ZhongXun Group.
It will contain 14 plots hosting retail, hospitality, sport and cultural facilities, along with office and residential space in towers up to 250m high.
The scheme is located on the banks of the Yangtze River.
Detailed design has begun on the first phase of the scheme, known as Zhongxun Times, which will be completed by spring 2015.
The Zhongxun Times site has a level difference of 10m across it, and will cater for multiple level pedestrian access points from elevated walkways.
10 Design was founded in September 2010 by former RMJM staff including Gordon Affleck, Adrian Boot and Ted Givens.
Its first major commission was unveiled in May 2011 – a 510,000m² mixed-use project in Zhuhai, China.
