Work begins for Peabody six

All six architects on the Peabody small projects panel have started work on housing projects across the capital

Sites have been allocated within Peabody’s property portfoilio for all of the firms named on the small projects panel earlier this year.

The contest to find architects to work on developments below the OJEU threshold, which was organised by the forward-thinking housing association, drew 300 entries earlier this year.

Adam Khan Architects, Urban Salon and Studio 54 are drawing up plans for the three sites that were part of the original competition brief, while Lyndon Goode, Pitman Tozer and Jan Kattein have been allocated new plots.

At Pembury in Hackney Adam Khan is designing a youth community building, Urban Salon are working on a 16-20 mews houses on Peabody’s Victoria Park estate on Morpeth Road, while Studio 54 are working up plans for a small housing scheme on the Palmer Garages site in Islington.

Meanwhile Lyndon Goode are developing a mix of flats and houses on two garage sites in Lee, Pitman Tozer is working on an existing commercial building that Peabody owns on Wearside Road in Lewisham and Jan Kattein is working on an infill project on the large existing Whitecross Estate in Islington.

Client’s view

Claire Bennie, Peabody development director

‘We are delighted to be starting work with our Small Projects Panel, who are some of the most innovative and exciting emerging practices around. The Panel will use this opportunity to be bold; making the best use of space to enhance our existing estates, and activating new public realm through their creativity.

‘We are really looking forward to exploring ideas collaboratively with the panel and within our communities to create beautiful homes and top-quality living space for our residents.’
