Waugh Thistleton gets go-ahead for £35m Hackney scheme

  • Comment

Waugh Thistleton has won planning for this canal-side office scheme in Hackney, East London

The £35 million scheme will replace a disused record manufacturing and distribution warehouse on the site.

The Shoreditch-based practice’s 4,625m² six-storey office includes a canal-facing ground floor terrace, balconies and roof gardens.

Ana Durao, project architect at Waugh Thistleton, said: ‘The banks of the Regents Canal have a long history of being occupied by light industrial units, as well as workshops and studios, and this proposal carries on this important urban grain that should not be lost.

‘We have also thought carefully about contributing to the skyline of the north side of the canal, and we have chosen muted, simple materials to complement the design.’

Work on the scheme is set to start on site later this month.
