[Video] Steven Holl on the Glasgow School of Art, his Scandinavian origins, and his approach to architecture

In this video for the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Denmark, American architect Steven Holl, discussed his projects and approach to architecture.

Speaking about his recently completed Glasgow School of Art and before the building was damaged in the hurricane force winds last night (8 January), Holl said: ‘I’m sure the Glasgow School of Art, which we completed in April, will change lives’.

He went on to discuss his approach to projects.

‘Architecture should be about place. We turn down projects that are just about an object building’, he said.

Holl added: ‘A five-year-old child should be able to understand the space just like you understand a piece of music. ’
