Danish practice BIG has unveiled this ‘virtual tour’ of a proposed new urban quarter on the outskirts of Paris
The 800,000m² Europa City 16km north east of Paris will create a new leisure and culture destination, linking the centre of the city to Le Bourget and Charles De Gaulle airport. According to the practice, the scheme will ‘combine dense urban development with open space’.
The plans feature a water park, exhibitions, sports, music venues, shops, restaurants and a hotel.
BIG worked with design firm Squint/Opera to create the film using a green screen to explain each quarter of the development. The video combines photoreal 3D and 2D graphics, plus a series of stills to highlight different aspects of the scheme.
Late last year it was revealed that BIG would finally be making its UK debut with a new public square at the Battersea Power Station development.
The new city quarter in Paris is being developed by Alliages. Construction on the vast site is due to start in 2017 and be complete in 2020 /21.
