Sutton ‘Life Centre’ approved

Curl La Tourelle Architects has won permission for the ‘Life Centre’ it designed for the London Borough of Sutton

The £8.15 million project was commissioned by the local council and developed with museum experts at Land Design Studio.

Scheduled for completion in September 2010, it will contain immersive learning environment, youth centre and community library.

The architect says that the front of the centre is designed to match the neighbouring semi-detached houses. An internal covered ‘street’ links the various components inside.

Earth tubes and a biomass boiler will meet much of the building’s heat requirements. It will also have a rainwater-harvesting system.
