Supersized changing prospect for Spurs

  • Comment

All eyes are on Tottenham Hotspur FC and what the club’s proposed new stadium may look like. Rumours are that a ‘big reveal’ is imminent.

Details of Populous’ design remain sketchy, but it is becoming increasingly likely the £400 million arena will have to accommodate regular American football games – as predicted by the AJ in autumn 2013 (see AJ 24.10.13).

Whether the new 61,000-seat stadium at White Hart Lane will include a retractable pitch similar to that used by the Arizona Cardinals at their home in Phoenix, also designed by Populous, is unclear.

But sources claim it will feature substantially larger changing facilities than Premier League football teams need – giant ‘locker rooms’ capable of housing the 53 players and up to 20 coaches that a typical NFL team boasts.

If approved, the new stadium, which replaces architect KSS’ already-consented design, could complete in time for the 2018-19 season.
