Studio Octopi has begun a campaign to raise funds to bring Peckam’s historic lido back to life
The architects behind the Thames Baths are hoping to raise £65,000 to reimagine the historic open air swimming pool in South East London.
The 50-year-old outdoor pool closed in 1987 after it became outdated and fell into disrepair and was later filled in.
Back in April 2015, Studio Octopi won an architectural contest to resurrect the lido on the exact spot of its predecessor.
The new Olympic-sized pool and surrounding complex will include a wild swimming pond chanelling the nearby River Peck, roof-top sunbathing areas, an outdoor cinema, gym, yoga studio and a function room.
The development’s crowdfunding campaign, which launched on Friday, has already raised more than £15,000 and has 386 backers.
