Manchester-based Stephenson Studio is set to transform a Grade II*-listed mill in the Great Ancoats area of the city into flats
Backed by regeneration company Urban Splash, the 4,180m² scheme will see the red-brick Brownsfield Mill, which was built in 1825, converted into loft flats.
The ’unusually complete and well preserved’ building once housed the Avro, A.V. Roe and Company aviation factory.
Roger Stephenson said: ‘We are delighted to be undertaking these designs and working on one of Manchester’s last untouched mills, which is cherished by many.
‘We understand how Urban Splash work and will honour its distinct approach of retaining and enhancing as many of the original features as we can.’
Stephenson Studio has previously converted another former mill – Finlay’s Warehouse – in Dale Street.
In June, Urban Splash said it has ‘returned to development’ after posting a profit of £3 million for the year ending 30 September 2015. It had racked up £135 million of debt during the recession and consequently restructured in April 2013.
