Stars vie to get their hands on ugly hotel

  • Comment

The gossipmongers are having a (clandestine) field day over the future of the 1970s Tower Hotel – once voted the capital’s second ugliest building.

A couple of years ago it was rumoured Allies and Morrison had been asked to overhaul the Brutalist block next to the Tower of London.

Now the word on the street is that a number of high-profile names have expressed an interest in titivating the concrete hulk – among them Foster’s, Zaha Hadid, Daniel Libeskind (!) and New York stars SHoP.

However, a mini-revamp of the hotel is already underway, with all the windows being replaced, which suggests no decision is likely soon.

Perhaps the big guns are being tapped up for a longer term vision.
