Stanton Williams wins go-ahead to overhaul ex-Met Police home

  • Comment

Stanton Williams has won permission to convert and extend Tintagel House on London’s Albert Embankment, the former home of the Metropolitan Police’s first computer

The 10,700m² scheme is backed by co-working pioneer The Office Group, which bought the site from the Reuben Brothers for £20 million in 2015, and will convert the long-empty 1960 block  ‘into a flexible setting for a variety of work styles’.

Featuring a two-storey extension at the base of the 12-storey riverside building, the proposals will open up the ground and first floors to create ’generous communal spaces’.

According to the practice, the palette of ‘facing brick and glazed tiles of the new façade references the original concept of the building’ as well as hinting at the site’s history of pottery and glazed ceramic production

Construction work on Tintagel House is due to complete by the end of this year.
