Six-strong shortlist for Scunthorpe revealed - images

A shortlist of six architects and landscape architects has been drawn up for the RIBA's Sports Academy: Reinvigorating Scunthorpe Central Park competition.

The six still in the running are The Landscape Agency with DSP Architects, Planit EDC with Hot Architecture, DLA Architecture with Urban Design, Andrew Wright Associates with Grant Associates, de Rijke Marsh Morgan and Barker and Coutts with Jestico & Whiles.

Applicants were asked to submit ideas for the development of new public sports facilities and the reinvigoration of Central Park in Scunthorpe. The park has an approximate area of 27 hectares and comprises ancient woodland, formal public parkland and sports facilities.

The submissions (pictured) have been kept anonymous, and have been attracting attention during the public consultation period. The final judging is to take place in late September.

Tony Lyman, head of planning and regeneration for North Lincolnshire Council, said: 'The standard of the original 45 submissions was very high and created a lot of public interest.

'The judging panel had a difficult task shortlisting the final six entries. We eagerly look forward to receiving the detailed submissions in September.'
