SimpsonHaugh unveils Manchester hotel tower proposal

SimpsonHaugh Architects has drawn up plans for a new 21-storey hotel in Manchester, a stone’s throw from the practice’s 47-storey Beetham Tower

Developer Ask Real Estate revealed images of the 13,000m² aparthotel mooted for 325-327 Deansgate at a local consultation event last week.

The tower would provide about 310 hotel rooms to be operated by Staycity. Two railway arches underneath the Castlefield Viaduct would be converted into retail or leisure units as part of the scheme.

The Deansgate public house would be retained and remain open throughout the construction project. A separate planning application would be submitted to extend the Deansgate’s existing roof terrace.

The site is bounded by Trafford Street to the north; Century Street to the east; Whitworth Street West and the Deansgate-Castlefield Metrolink stair and lift core to the south; and Deansgate to the west.

SimpsonHaugh is working with Stephen Levrant Heritage Architecture and Planit-IE on the scheme.

Subject to planning, the project could start on site next year and complete in 2021.

Manchester City Council earlier this year approved SimpsonHaugh’s transformation of the Great Northern Warehouse area of the city. In June, former England cricketer Andrew Flintoff unveiled plans for a major residential scheme in Manchester with a 35-storey tower designed by SimpsonHaugh.
