Sheppard Robson has finally submitted a planning application for the regeneration of Hammersmith town centre in west London
The proposals, for the western end of King Street, centre on a public square featuring cafes, restaurants, 320 homes, a new council office building, a ‘community-sized’ supermarket and a footbridge across the A4 linking the town centre to the River Thames.
Initial proposals were revealed back in June this year.
A 1960s extension building in front of the Grade II-listed E Berry Webber-designed town hall will be demolished.
A consultation exercise on the planning application will take place before it is considered by the council’s planning committee next year.
David Walters, from developer King Street Developments said: ‘The regeneration of the west end of King Street will not only provide new shops, restaurants, homes, council facilities, and a safe, fully accessible route across the A4, at no cost to the taxpayer, but it will also ensure that Hammersmith Town Hall remains at the heart of the borough’s civic life.
‘We are aware that there are people who have concerns about certain aspects of the plans, but we believe that this is the only way of unlocking this site to deliver a scheme which can benefit local residents and business for decades to come, securing the future of King Street.’
