Sergison Bates has won an international competition to design housing on two neighbouring sites in Zurich
The invited competition was run by two clients - Kirchgemeinde Seebach and Meli family – who owned the adjoining sites in the Seebach area of the city and wanted to ‘create synergies in the design and construction process’.
The practice’s 2,500m2 proposal includes thirty-one apartments alongside studios and shared spaces including a common room with a kitchen.
Loggias on the corners of the two multi-storey buildings link to a shared communal garden.
The flexible layout of the apartments allows interiors to be tailored to a variety of households and lifestyles.
According to the practice, the buildings ‘optimise the quality of the shared space between them’.
It added: ‘The vertical organisation of the facades is emphasised by generous windows that extend on the top floor to give the buildings a stepped silhouette.’
