Satellite plans 'super façade' for designjunction show

  • Comment

London-based Satellite Architects is to build a 70-metre long façade at this year’s designjunction show in King’s Cross

Satellite Architects’ seven-metre tall structure will act as an entrance to another temporary tent-like structure, dubbed Cubitt House, which will house more than 100 exhibits for the annual showcase of contemporary interior design.

Working with Danish designers, Icons of Denmark, the practice will use a ’scaffold-like grid system’ - built by Oktra - to encase a cluster of existing trees and bushes.

The scheme is based on the Danish designer Peter J Lassen’s GRID system and will feature more than 4,000 black and white cubic frames.

Stewart Dodd, founding director of Satellite Architects, said: ’The façade is intended to reflect the temporary nature of designjunction as an exhibition, and the developing surroundings, combining the natural and artificial elements.’

Designjunction is an annual event, which displays contemporary interior design to architects, interior designers, the press and retailers. Now in its sixth year, the showcase is part of the London Design Festival.
