Roz Barr Architects has been appointed to design a new Augustinian Centre in Hammersmith, West London
The scheme will refurbish the existing St Augustine’s church and hall while also creating a new centre and priory.
The new priory will provide a home for ten friars and will also include formal and informal worship spaces, and a café.
The existing hall will be adapted for the church’s exhibition, community, education and administrative functions.
The church itself will be refurbished to create a ‘light and airy’ interior and externally new landscaping will form a piazza.
Roz Barr said: ‘We are extremely excited about this project and the fact our relationship with St Augustine’s can allow us to create a new public space in central London. Here religion, craft, art and community are drawn into a quietly dramatic dialogue within this very urban site.’
The scheme is expected to be submitted for planning at the end of 2015.
