Rivington Street Studio has completed London’s first Passivhaus school
The project at Stebon Primary School in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets has expanded the school’s capacity from a two form entry to a three form entry.
The scheme included a new two-storey 1,250m² classroom block, an extension to the school’s hall with new dining facilities, and the remodelling of existing classrooms.
The new timber-clad classroom block connects to the existing hall via a glazed link. It also features brick gable ends which overhang to create a sheltered external play area.
The school’s headteachers Jeremy Iver and Joanna Franklin, said: ‘We wanted a school that was simple, environmentally-friendly and created a comfortable educational environment for the children. The Passivhaus design meets all of these needs and, in fact, exceeds them.’
