  • Comment

A library, music school and sports centre are among 11 buildings shortlisted for the RIBA West Midlands Awards

Associated Architects’ New Library in Birmingham, Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios’ Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands’ University of Birmingham Indoor Sports Centre join eight other projects vying for the awards.

The winners will be announced at Tom’s Kitchen, The Mailbox, Birmingham on 22 May.

RIBA West Midlands chair Aaron Chetwynd said: ‘At a time of significant construction activity within the region, I am really delighted that this RIBA Regional Awards shortlist showcases the excellent breadth of architects’ work in the West Midlands.

‘The inclusion of new build, conservation and refurbishment work, projects at large and smaller scales and in urban, suburban and rural settings illustrates the value and impact that great design can bring to any setting and all communities. It is a particular pleasure to see the inclusion of projects that are of major significance to the region and have the potential to impact on so many lives of its inhabitants.’

Regional winners will be considered for an RIBA National Award. The shortlist for the RIBA Stirling Prize will be drawn from the RIBA National Award-winning buildings.
