Alison Brooks shortlisted for global AR Housing award 2016

A 43-home scheme in north London by Alison Brooks Architects has been named among the four finalists for the inaugural AR Housing award

The £8.2million project for the London Borough of Brent and Catalyst Housing is joined on the international shortlist by ground-breaking housing developments in India, France and Denmark.

The new award was launched to seek out the best housing projects constructed within the last five years – from social and public/private to private schemes, from micro-scale to large-scale projects, from housing complexes to student residences to apartment blocks.

The jury of Je Ahn of Studio Weave, Cany Ash of Ash Sakula and Sasa Radulovic of 5468796 architecture were looking for projects that recognised and challenged the many crises facing housing globally today, and the selection demonstrates a broad range of approaches.

Ahn commented: ‘Housing can fall back on a formulaic approach – so I was particularly interested in how schemes are breaking away from that.’

Rather than simply judge based on submissions, each finalist has been visited by an independent writer and photographer, who have reported their findings back to the jury.

The winner will be announced later this week.

The Finalists:

  • Ely Court (UK) by Alison Brooks Architects
  • Studios 18 (India) by Sanjay Puri Architects
  • Carré Lumière (France) by LAN architecture
  • Campus Hall, Odense (Denmark) by C.F. Møller
