Revealed: RIBA Northern Ireland Awards shortlist

Six buildings have been shortlisted for the RIBA Northern Ireland Awards, including a health centre by Keppie Design with Hoskins Architects

Also on the list is a house by Broadstone Architects, two schemes by McGarry Moon Architects, a refurbishment of a 1967 Grade B+ listed church by Kennedy FitzGerald Architects, and McDowell+Bostock Architects’ refit of a former linen building in central Belfast.

Ciarán Fox, director of the Royal Society of Ulster Architects (RSUA), said: ‘This year’s shortlist takes in a wide range of projects including housing, offices, restoration and public buildings. It is encouraging to see the high standard of architecture being achieved across so many sectors. We are fortunate to have such talented architects working in Northern Ireland and we’re working hard to create the conditions to allow that talent to flourish.’

All shortlisted buildings will now be visited by a regional jury, with the winning buildings announced at an event in May. The Northern Ireland jury includes Alastair Hall of Hall McKnight and Kieran McGonigle of McGonigle McGrath; the lay judge is artist Colin Davidson.

The winners will be put forward for the RIBA National Awards, with the recipients announced in July. Those collecting national awards will then be considered for the 2017 RIBA Stirling Prize.
