Concept designs have been revealed by the eight finalists in the running to design waterfront homes for this year’s British Homes Award

Entrants to the Sunday Times-backed contest, run in partnership with the AJ, were asked to design a Passivhaus waterside holiday home with a budget of less than £350,000.

The shortlisted practices include AJ100 firm Stride Treglown, the Leeds office of NPS and emerging Manchester-based practice Artform Architects.

The judging panel, which was chaired by Robert Adam of ADAM Architecture and included the AJ’s editorial director Paul Finch, also selected schemes by BrightSpace Architects, Fluid Design, Shelton Hawkins Architects, Jon Broome Architects and Koru Architects.

The brief called for a ‘buildable and replicable’ 200m² home of up to three storeys on a waterfront site in southern England owned by Habitat First Group.

The holiday home specialist has pledged to build the victorious project, with the winner chosen by the readers of the Sunday Times and announced on 19 September. All the schemes will be on display at The Building Centre, London.

The competition is backed by Habitat First Group, Passivhaus Trust and Kingspan Insulation.
