RCKa completes £4m laboratory for banknote printer

[FIRST LOOK] London-based RCKa has finished the £4 million refurbishment and extension of a research facility in Hampshire

The practice’s revamp of the 1980s office building provides new laboratories, write-up space and a visitors’ area for De La Rue, the world’s largest banknote printer.

The 2,000m² building is located within De La Rue’s existing production plant at Overton Mill in Hampshire.

The new three-storey extension features new secure laboratory accommodation and a visitors’ suite on the ground and first floors, with open-plan offices above.

Sat on a steep slope, the scheme is the first building visible when visitors enter the rural site.

Deep window reveals have been used to both provide shading during the summer and give the building a sculptural form.

Russell Curtis, director, RCKa said: ‘We’re extremely proud to have helped De La Rue realise the full potential of their existing office building. The success of the project is testament to the hard work and vision of both the client and project team, and will enable De La Rue to continue to build on their proud history of innovation.’
