[FIRST LOOK + PLANS + PROJECT DATA] Project Orange has won planning permission for the final phase of the Rathbone Market regeneration scheme in Canning Town, East London
The scheme includes 216 homes arranged around a shared communal garden.
At ground floor level there are three-bedroom duplexes and at the upper levels one and two-bedroom apartments.
The brick building varies in height from six to fourteen storeys.
The scheme forms the final piece in the three-phase Rathbone Market masterplan. The first phase of apartments designed by CZWG was completed in May 2013.
The architect’s view
In contrast to the modern materials used in the first two stages, phase three will be, in the London tradition, built of brick. The development will comprise of one, two, and three-bedroom properties formed in a horse-shoe-shape around a communal garden with a mature oak tree, with a secure gated entrance via a public square.
The intention is to provide a development of great visual depth, using two colours of brick: on the outside a black/grey mix, with silver brick around the garden; cascading windows embossed with a diamond texture and powder-coated gold balconies.
