Pollard Thomas Edwards goes for planning with apartments and school scheme

  • Comment
Pollard Thomas Edwards architects is to seek planning permission for this mixed-use residential and primary school project in west London.

The construction of the new St Thomas' School in North Kensington will be funded by building 50 flats above it.

The primary school will provide increased classroom space, an integrated nursery and reception class, dining, studio and assembly halls and flexible teaching accommodation.

According to the architect, the new building will sit next to the road and shelter the school from the street - creating a sense of privacy for new playground and garden areas. The apartments will have a separate entrance.

The school will be immediately identifiable by a sculptured metallic assembly hall above the entrance, and the remaining frontage, which provides a solid base, will be punctuated by coloured 'pods'.
