Last year’s Stirling Prize winner is planning to build an 11-storey metallic office block that would provide nearly 20,000m2 of office space to the City.
However, the City of London’s planners have deemed the building ‘inappropriate’ for the site due to its impact on Christopher Wren’s Monument and the Grade II*-listed Fishmongers’ Hall.
The report adds that these issues are ‘irresolvable without significant design modification’.
Despite the planner’s recommendation developer Sellar Property – also the team responsible for Renzo Piano’s proposed London Bridge Shard – remains optimistic.
A Sellar spokesman said: ‘We’ll have to see what happens at the committee meeting before we make any further decisions on the scheme.’
