Piercy Conner lands pan-European Manubuild contest

  • Comment
London-based Piercy Conner has won the high-profile European Manubuild prefab housing competition.

Dubbed 'architecture's answer to Airbus' because of the potential for pan-continental collaboration, the contest attracted the largest construction companies and some of the hottest design talent from around Europe.

Among the architects involved were Britain's Feilden Clegg Bradley and Llewelyn Davies Yeang as well as AJ 40 Under 40 starlets Surface Architects and Amin Taha (AJ 27.04.06).

It is believed Piercy Conner, also a 40 Under 40 practice, will now be asked to mastermind a new, exemplar 'industrialised' residential scheme for Madrid's housing department.

However the roles for the other entrants - who may yet get to contribute some of their ideas for integrated prefabrication schemes - remain unclear. A much-anticipated exhibition in Amsterdam which would have displayed all the proposals and which was due to open on 9 May was cancelled.

An official announcement about the winning proposals is now not expected until 12 June.
