pH+ wins planning for specialist centre for children with cerebral palsy

  • Comment

pH+ has been given the green light to extend a centre for children with cerebral palsy in the Haringey, north London

PROJECT DATA

The new space will allow the children to experience a wide variety of different environments ad is designed to stimulate the senses through sounds, smells, light and a variety of textured surfaces.

An external walkway wraps around the building offering views out to the surrounding woodland. The timber walkway is enclosed by a screen which becomes a giant xylophone for the children to play.

Inside the extension there is a hydrotherapy pool, therapy and meeting rooms, a community hall space and a dedicated hub where parents and carers can access information and training.

The building’s roofs will feature sensory gardens and the surrounding garden space is also set to include a woodland adventure space, a mud kitchen, growing gardens and an amphitheatre.

Andy Puncher, director, at pH+, said: ‘Working with the LCCCP has been a long and enriching process. We have worked closely with the centre and its pupils to develop a series of spaces that will provide the optimum learning environment. We’re so proud to work on a project that shows how design can directly affect lives.’

Jo Honigmann, chief executive of LCCCP, added: ‘The new centre will be an vibrant and harmonious space, the perfect new home for expanding our services and life-changing work. Its fusion of science and nature complements the work of Conductive Education, where the body’s natural ability to learn is supported through specific, practical techniques. We are very grateful to Haringey Council and all our funders who have supported our capital appeal to-date.’
