Perkins+Will wins consent for parent company’s new London HQ

Perkins+Will has won planning consent for a nine-storey central London headquarters for itself and other parts of its parent company

The practice’s 150 Holborn Street scheme for Dar Group has been approved by councillors at Camden Council.

The scheme will see a seven-storey 1980s building on the site demolished and replaced with 12,862m² of office space, along with retail and café space.

A separate seven-storey building on the site will provide 13 apartments.

Dar Group – which includes Perkins+Will as well as construction consultancy Currie & Brown and other firms – will base its European operations, employing more than 1,000 workers, in the main tower.

The City of London objected to the scheme, warning it could impact on views from Staple Inn Quadrangle.

But planning officers said that, while the top part of the roof of the building would be visible from Staple Inn Courtyard, it would not cause harm to the view.

Planners said in a report to councillors the scheme would ‘result in significant benefits through all three strands of sustainable development without any adverse impacts significantly or demonstrably outweighing them’.
