Nicholas Kirk completes cable-tie Kielder canopy

  • Comment

Emerging London-based practice Nicholas Kirk Architects has collaborated with composer Ed Carter to create an installation for the Kielder Water & Forest Park in Northumberland

The work entitled ‘Canopy’ joins other works on the site by well-known architects including Adjaye Associates, Charles Barclay, Softroom and Studio Weave.

Located in one of the oldest areas of forest at Kielder, the sculptural stage has been designed using data from the forest relating to the different ages of the trees in the surrounding area.

The charred-timber performance space which has a roof formed from transparent cable ties will form the setting for a series of experimental music performances.
