Museum of London plan inches forward

Back in March the Museum of London announced it intended to move out of its Powell & Moya-designed home at the Barbican and into buildings at Smithfield Market

Six months later the museum admits there remain ‘many issues to be resolved’ before this can happen – not least the conclusion of negotiations with Smithfield’s long-term leaseholder Henderson.

Things must be heading in the right direction, however, because the museum tells Astragal it has appointed Malcolm Reading Consultants to help find ‘one of the world’s leading architects’ for the job.

Anyone who fancies the chance to rework the Victorian landmark – and succeed where KPF and John McAslan failed – should keep an eye out…
