MUMA’s long-awaited £15 million overhaul of Manchester’s Whitworth Art Gallery is set to open next week
The revamp and extension scheme has doubled the 125-year-old gallery’s public space and created a new entrance to Whitworth Park.
The project includes a new North Wing, housing a landscape gallery and a new study centre.
A promenade gallery leads to the South Wing, featuring ‘a new café and a learning studio opening into the art garden’.
The London-based practice won the job back in 2009 seeing off competition from finalists Amanda Levete Architects, Edward Cullinan Architects and Stanton Williams.
The art gallery reopens to the public on 14 February with a major exhibition by artist Cornelia Parker.
