Moxon wins go-ahead for Scottish hotel

  • Comment

Moxon Architects has won planning for this new hotel in Braemar in the Cairngorms National Park

The timber-clad scheme will turn Braemar’s Fife Arms into a 45-bedroom hotel with a restaurant and other community facilities.

The original B-listed building, which is the focal point of the village, will see its 19th century facades revamped but the decorative elements which characterise the building will be retained.

The largest architectural intervention will be the demolition of 20th century additions to the main building which will be replaced with a series of more sympathetic structures complimenting the rest of the hotel.

A new central courtyard featuring a sheltered external space where a line of tree trunk columns will support its heather-planted roof.

Highland Hospitality – the scheme’s client - is owned by Hauser & Wirth gallery co-presidents Iwan and Manuela Wirth.

The hotel is expected to complete in 2018.
