Mary Duggan unveils ‘landscape-first’ 157-home scheme for Croydon

Mary Duggan Architects has drawn up plans for a 157-home scheme in south London.

Plans for the £25 million Lion Green Road scheme in Coulsdon have been submitted to Croydon Council after being commissioned by the local authority’s own arms-length development company, Brick by Brick.

Driven by a ‘landscape-first’ policy, the scheme contains five blocks of up to seven storeys each, placed to give an outlook over the surrounding shared space.

The arrangement of the buildings is designed to maximise efficiency while generating spatially dynamic internal layouts, according to the developer.

Interconnected living and cooking spaces are arranged around corner loggias set among a canopy of trees.

Mary Duggan Architects was founded last year by former Duggan Morris director Mary Duggan.

Subject to planning consent, construction of the scheme could start this year.

Tall buildings set within a landscape. It's almost like someone tried this before. Hmmm.

  • Have we gone back in time 60 years? Not sure what's 'landscape first' about the huge car park.

  • Anonymous beat me to it! With that carpark "landscape first" is cheap marketing hype; the project is left with too little landscape to be countryside /arcadian, or dense enough to contribute to the city.

Agree with all the above, this is a lovely scheme and beautiful imagery, but surely this has tried and failed spectacularly before? Learn from history!
