Manchester abandons storm-hit MIPIM pavilion

Manchester’s beachfront pavilion at this year’s MIPIM property fair at Cannes has had to be abandoned after it was flooded in overnight storms

Manchester moved out of the main Palais conference hall to the new flagship structure next to the London stand overlooking the Mediterranean for the first time last year.

But this year the ‘shack on the beach’, as Manchester City councils leader Richard Leese described it at a relocated launch event in the Majestic Hotel, was inundated the night before MIPIM got under way, forcing the Manchester delegation to find a new home at short notice.

The region has now set up its base in the VIP Club within the Palais de Festivals, although Liverpool City Region Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram had said Liverpool was willing to share space and had offered Manchester room on its stand.

A tweet from Manchester at MIPIM confirmed the enforced relocation: ’Unfortunately due to storm damage, all Manchester at MIPIM 2018 daytime events scheduled to take place at the Manchester Pavilion on La Croisette will now take place in the VIP Club, Level 3, Palais de Festivals.’
