Make submits plans for new City of London tower

Ken Shuttleworth’s practice Make has lodged a planning application for a new 37-storey office tower close to the Cheesegrater in the City of London

The 182m-tall 1 Leadenhall scheme is the latest high-rise building to emerge in the growing Eastern Cluster and will sit south west of Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners’ landmark skyscraper.

If approved, the tower will be a similar height to WilkinsonEyre’s neighbouring three-block Prussian Blue skyscraper scheme at 6-8 Bishopsgate which was given the go-ahead in July

Replacing the 1988 GMW-designed Leadenhall Court, Make’s proposals will create office space for 4,000 people as well as shops along Leadenhall and Gracechurch streets.

According to developer and project backer Brookfield, ’instead of having a viewing platform at the top of the tower 1 Leadenhall features a free public terrace overlooking the historic roof of Leadenhall Markets, offering visitors views of the Victorian ironworks and views south’.
