The practice, which has studios in London and Rotterdam, designed the metro station 11 metres above ground in the Bijlmer region of the Dutch city.
Work on a scrapped proposal for a station at Dagenham Dock helped Maccreanor Lavington secure the recently completed metro station project in Amsterdam.
Founding partner Richard Lavington told AJ that work on the proposed Docklands Light Railway extension in east London had paved the way for the Dutch scheme.
‘We carried out a feasibility study for Dagenham Dock and that was some of the work that allowed us to win the Amsterdam metro station,’ he said.
‘Both projects were about how to keep a very clear set of public spaces around the station.’
The metro station designed by Maccreanor Lavington has no backs, and is aimed at being attractive on all sides both during the day and at night.
A cut-out decorative skin is used to prevent graffiti and to let light through.
Lavington said the Netherlands was a difficult place to win work at the moment, and the practice was looking further afield.
‘We are looking at China and Russia,’ he said. ‘The work we are looking at is mainly masterplanning.’
