Loyn & Co's Outhouse is bookmaker's new Stirling Prize favourite

Bookmaker William Hill has made Loyn & Co’s Outhouse in Gloucestershire the new favourite for this year’s RIBA Stirling Prize

The practice’s 490m² country house in the Forest of Dean has replaced early frontrunner Herzog & de Meuron’s Blavatnik School of Government (7/2), as the bookies’ choice for the 2016 accolade.

However, although Outhouse ‘has been the best backed’ by punters, William Hill maintains the race for the prize will be tight-run (see also Bookmaker says 2016 Stirling Prize is ‘closest ever’).

A spokesman told the AJ: ’[The 2016 prize] has turned out to be a very open year with all six of the building attracting support.’

Three of the other contenders are now priced at 4/1, with Caruso St John’s Newport Street Gallery in Vauxhall still ranked as the least likely to win the prize, even though it currently tops the AJ’s readers’ poll (see Who do you want to win the 2016 RIBA Stirling Prize?).

The judging panel, which this year is chaired by Zaha Hadid Architects’ Patrik Schumacher, includes AHMM’s Paul Monaghan, Heneghan Peng co-founder Roísín Heneghan, Mike Hussey, founder of sponsor Almacantar, and artist Rachel Whiteread.

The winner of the award will be announced on 6 October during a ceremony at the RIBA’s London HQ.

Revised RIBA Stirling Prize odds (13 September)

  • 3/1 Outhouse, Gloucestershire
  • 7/2 Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford
  • 4/1 Weston Library, University of Oxford
  • 4/1 Riverside Campus, City of Glasgow College, Glasgow
  • 4/1 Trafalgar Place, Elephant & Castle, London
  • 5/1 Newport Street Gallery, Vauxhall, London
