Karakusevic Carson’s east London homes get the green light

Newham Council has granted planning permission for two residential schemes in east London by Karakusevic Carson Architects 

Backed by Red Door Ventures, Newham Council’s wholly owned housing company, the plans for the first scheme include 77 private rented flats in Grange Road, Plaistow, while the second scheme is for nine affordable homes in Doherty Road.

Plans for the 6,809m² Grange Road scheme include a new L-shaped mansion building containing one, two and three-bedroom homes with balconies.

The second 1,060m² scheme in Doherty Road willl include brick townhouses with rear gardens, replacing vacant garages on a brownfield site.

Sam McDermott, associate at Karakusevic Carson Architects, said: ‘Red Door Ventures’ innovative approach to providing new high-quality rental and affordable homes in Newham, combined with their strong belief in design and its value to the long-term ownership model they are invested in, is an exciting project to be involved in and we are keen to get these projects on site as soon as possible.’

He added that the planning approval would be the ‘first of what we hope to be many applications with Red Door Ventures’.

Work is expected to start on site for both schemes in summer 2017. The Doherty Road scheme is set to complete in autumn 2018 and Grange Road in 2019
