Westminster Council has backed KPF Architects’ plans for a hotel for Robert de Niro in Covent Garden, central London

Backed by Capital & Counties Properties, proposals for the Wellington Hotel in Wellington Street include 83 rooms, a spa, restaurant, retail space, private members club and office.

The hotel will be run by BD Hotels (BDH) in partnership with the Oscar-winning actor.

In addition, three Grade II-listed buildings on the large site – spanning across Wellington Street, Tavistock Street, Exeter Street and Burleigh Street – will be refurbished.

Robert Davis, Westminster City Council deputy leader, cabinet member for the built environment and chairman of planning, said: ‘This is one of the finest schemes we have considered for Covent Garden in years.

‘The design is of the highest quality, and it fits the bill as a Covent Garden building that meshes the new with the old. The hotel will attract visitors from all over the world.’
